First Aid Courses

Under Health & Safety Law, an employer has a responsibility to ensure that first aid provision in the workplace is sufficient for the needs of that particular business.

This would Include:  
Carrying out a First Aid needs assessment to decide where, how many and what type of First Aiders are needed.

Provide the necessary up to date Training and re-qualifying training for the nominated First Aiders.

Providing sufficient first Aid kits and equipment which should be located in the areas they are required.

Ensuring that all staff are aware of how and where to get First Aid treatment.

First Aid Needs Assessment:

When carrying out this assessment the employer should take into account:

The average Age of the workforce, the size of the organisation, the nature of the workforce ie: special needs, the history of illness or accidents, work patterns, holidays, the distribution of the workforce, the remoteness of the site in relation to the medical services and provision for non employees.

What Course do I need:

There are two levels of  approved and accredited courses for the workplace which are:

EFAW ( Emergency First Aid at Work ) a one day course which covers the basic needs of workplace First Aid from CPR to how to deal with wounds and bleeding.       see download section for a course prospectus .

FAW ( First Aid at Work ) a full three day course which goes into much more detail where a higher level of first Aid may be required in the workplace.

Each of these courses are backed up by Annual refresher and re-qualification courses ( It is recommended that refreshers are taken Annually to help with 
" skill Fade" , if you don't use it you lose it.

There are also a number of other courses available, forestry First Aid, Citizen first Aid, Defibrillator Training, Peadiatric First aid

Course Content:

First Aid aims and priorities, CPR, Choking, Unconscious patient - including seizures, Wounds, bleeding and bandaging, Burns and scalds, Recording, the Law and first aid actions.

Certification and course manuals are included in all course fee's. As well as course Manuals and sundries.

Course Assessment:

By on-going assessment throughout the course by the trainer and multiple choice test questions at the end of the course, upon passing the certificate will remain valid for 3 Years.

A full accredited Certificate is issued upon passing each course

Level 3 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work ( one day )
